On-Campus Housing

  • On-campus housing offers the convenience of having the quickest commute to classes and activities, as well as the opportunity to develop lifelong friendships within the residence hall community.
  • East & West Hall provide a variety of room options, including single, double, triple, and quad rooms.
  • Some rooms in East & West Hall feature private bathrooms for added privacy.
  • All rooms are equipped with essential amenities such as Twin XL bed frames, desks and chairs, three-drawer dressers, blinds, and Wi-Fi access.
  • Community lounges and study spaces are available within the halls, providing communal areas for socializing and studying.
  • The on-campus housing facilities also include a Dining Commons and a convenience store for easy access to meals and supplies.
  • Residents can have their mail and packages delivered conveniently on campus.
  • A 24-hour service desk is available to address any concerns or requests.
  • Laundry facilities are accessible within the housing community.

Let's Eat!

  • Campus Dining: There’s a wide variety of options across campus, so you’ll always find something you’re in the mood for, whether you want to grab and go or sit down with friends.
  • You’ll find healthy options on campus with nutritional and ingredient statements readily available. You’re also covered if you have dietary restrictions and/or food allergies.
  • Simple Servings - Dining Commons: Offers options free from peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, wheat, soy, milk products, eggs, and gluten-containing ingredients.
  • My Zone - Dining Commons: The campus “pantry” where food items for students with nut allergies or Celiac disease or are stored and prepared.
  • Vegan/Vegetarian: Options are available across campus, and will be marked with the respective label when present.
  • Food insecurity is never ok. If you're struggling to afford the cost of meals, the U-ACCESS Food Pantry can help.

Stay Active

  • Beacon Fitness Center: Get your heart rate up with a full range of cardiovascular and strength equipment, racquetball courts, as well as an array of group fitness classes like Yoga, HIIT, and Zumba.

  • Clark Athletic Center: Head to the gym for open recreation or intramural sports, or practice your ping pong skills in the Clark Athletics Center. The Clark Ice Rink is home to the Men’s and Women’s hockey teams, but free skate happens twice a week.
  • Waterfront Activities: Take advantage of our location on the Boston Harbor by using your free recreation membership to check out equipment for sailing, kayaking, and paddle boarding. Don’t know how to sail, but want to give it a try? Utilize UMB’s partnership with Courageous Sailing to get free sailing lessons!

Stay Safe

  • UMass Boston Police: The UMB Police Department is committed to keeping us all safe. They investigate incidents reported to them, provide safety escorts, offer self-defense classes for women, and more. They oversee the GetRave system for emergency alerts - which will also notify you of weather cancellations. Sign up by texting UMBalerts to 67283 or registering at getrave.com/login/umb.

Commute

  • Where ver you are coming from, we’re happy to have you! Visit the transportation office for the following:
  • Discounted MBTA Passes: All undergraduates qualify for a discount on MTBA semester passes, and passes are charged directly to your student account to make payment easy and convenient. Local bus, LINK, inner and outer express busses, and commuter rail passes available. Make sure to stay posted for the application deadline before the start of each semester. The earlier you submit your application, the better. Tips for riding the T:
    • TRACK THE T: download an app like ProximiT or Where’s My MBTA Bus for real time updates.
    • STAND BACK when boarding allow passengers off before getting on the train. if the train is too crowded, wait for the next one if you can.
    • RING THE BELL on above ground trains like the green line, press the red button or yellow tape, or pull the cable to signal you need the next stop.
    • BE COURTEOUS If someone needs your seat, offer it. don’t take up seats with backpacks or bags. use headphones when listening to music or watching videos. bikes are not allowed on trains during rush hour.
  • Shuttle: Pick it up between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. at the JFK train station, outside the residence halls, and outside the Campus Center. Track it on the mobile app.
  • Bike: There are over 500 bike parking spaces across campus, safety and maintenance resources, and discounts on Bluebike memberships.
  • Parking: Parking is available on campus in the West Garage, Campus Center Garage, and University Lot D; as well as the Bayside Lot at 200 Mt. Vernon Street where free shuttles will take you to campus. Parking is $15 per day on campus, and $9 in the Bayside Lot. Semester passes are available.
  • Stay safe in the city:
    1. Don't walk alone at night. Bring a friend or call to request an escort.
    2. Lock your room when you leave. Even if you’ll just be down the hall.
    3. See something. Say Something. Report any activity that seems suspicious.
    4. Keep an eye on your things. Don’t leave your property unattended. that’s how most thefts occur.
    5. Trust your gut. Back away from situations that make you feel uneasy.
